Hi I’m Colin Yallop
Since 2002 I had a business making modifying and repairing HiFi Equipment.
The business web site is online but no longer updated Chevron Audio
The only product I am still actively involved with is a Moving Coil Phono Preamplifier called Tippi which is available from IPT Audio, they don’t have anything online yet but if you are interested contact them IPT
Low output Moving Coil (LoMC) cartridges can also be used as current rather than voltage generators using an transimpedance amplifier to amplify the current and output a voltage signal. There are technical advantages to this approach and I wanted to see whether sound quality was also better.
I started by building a step up amplifier to allow LoMC cartridges to operate into MM amplifiers. This worked very well with the MM input of the FVP5 so a PCB was designed to allow for a range of cartridges, current input does not require any load adjustment like Voltage input preamplifiers but gain settings are needed. This became the first Tippi which was demonstrated favourably to several in the HiFi business and was reviewed here
Since then a second gain stage has been added with RIAA equalisation, this has become the current Tippi Moving Coil Phono Preamplifier.
